Goal
To help executives do medium and long term
planning for their next sustainable career opportunity playing to natural and/or hidden talents.
Background
Executives spend so much time working in their careers that working on their careers suffers.
The root of poor career decision making often happens when an executive is in between jobs.
Pressures and/or impulsiveness often lead to "jumping" into the next opportunity without any regard
for how this role supports their ultimate career goal. On many occasions, an executive ends up with two to
three job jumps after a stable and progressive career only to be judged as "their best days must be behind them".
A typical manifestation of this is consistently coming second in a series of interview processes.
Gaining an understanding of why you are doing what you are doing,
your talents, hidden talents, and passions, opens the door to new possibilities. This
avoids the temptation to take job offers that naturally come to good people, or staying in one's comfort zone.
When we see executives in between jobs we see many of the following applying which is what we want to avoid for you:
- Remorse that more time was not spent on developing business networks
- No résumé or an outdated and old fashioned résumé
- Lack of understanding of modern techniques to find a senior role
- Poor on-line presence, in particular social networking sites
- Lack of understanding, or lack or objective evidence, of talents and hidden talents which have emerged from the last decade of experience
- Frustration with recruiters who seem half your age
- Nervousness and/or poor performance in modern behavioural interviewing
- Difficulty with the number of modern interviews that may number between 5-10 and suddenly falling out at later stages
